Every now and then, a debut track comes along that stops you in your tracks and makes you say: “Alright, there’s something here.” That’s exactly what happened when Silverback Artist Collective reached out to us with the first single from Arrokoth, a black metal trio from Mechelen, Belgium.

Their debut track, “The Skull Penetrator,” is as direct and unrelenting as the name implies. Think raw, atmospheric black metal with icy tremolos, militant pacing, and an edge that feels rooted in both early Darkthrone and contemporary bands like Winterfylleth. There’s no genre-bending or post-whatever experiments here – just honest, primitive black metal with a sharp sense of atmosphere and intent.
According to Silverback, the members of Arrokoth – performing under the names Karkaz, Trechlock, and Mortugh – are deeply inspired by the Norwegian greats. They’ve immersed themselves in the early legacy of the second wave and are using those roots to carve out their own identity. It’s also clear they’re taking the theatrical and mystical side of the genre seriously, not just musically, but in how they’ll eventually present themselves live.
“The Skull Penetrator” is just the beginning. The band is currently writing new material and figuring out what Arrokoth will be, both sonically and visually. That’s exactly the kind of phase we love to catch a band in – the spark, the energy, the unknown.
We’re excited to see where this goes. For now, if you’re into dark, cold, and unapologetically raw black metal, give the track a listen. There’s plenty to enjoy already – and a lot to look forward to.
