Expectations

Just days after seeing Slipknot destroy the stage at Rock im Park, I was ready for more. That show had been the highlight of the entire festival — perfect setlist, killer stage presence, and an atmosphere that only they can deliver. So expectations were high. But this was also my first time at the Expo-Plaza in Hannover. Would it hold up to the festival energy? Would they tweak the stage production, or bring new merch? And with Polaris and Motionless in White on the bill, the night was looking packed — even if I already knew I’d miss Polaris due to timing. Let’s see how it all played out.

Arrival, Merch & Beer

Getting there was smooth. Just a quick ride with the U-Bahn and a short walk on a sunny day. Already from outside, the venue looked promising — multiple merch booths, food stands, and everything easy to navigate.

Beer of the night: Gilde, one of Hannover’s biggest breweries. I'm not usually a big Pils drinker, but this one was surprisingly enjoyable — cold, fresh, and easy to drink.

Cool surprise: the venue was cashless, and when I returned my beer cup, they just scanned my credit card and sent the deposit back. Super smooth — hope more venues follow that.

Merch-wise, Slipknot delivered. Great designs, including a special Hannover shirt at €40. There was even a matching poster — €60 though, which felt a bit much. I didn’t grab anything since I already have a good Slipknot collection, but the temptation was real.

Motionless in White

Watched them from the back of the venue. They’re not my go-to, but the crowd loved them — lots of movement, hands in the air, solid engagement. The singer had serious stage presence, and the fanbase was big. I might not buy a ticket just for them, but clearly plenty of others would.

Slipknot

I had a Front of Stage ticket — the area wasn’t packed, which surprised me. Some fans told me they paid €240 for special packages (via Ticketmaster), while mine was €125 through Eventim with no extras.

The show itself? Incredible. Massive moshpits, crowd energy on fire, and even some Bengalos lit up the scene. Setlist matched Rock im Park — and I still can’t believe we got both "Gematria" and "Scissors" live. Just brutal.

Now, about the sound

From my position in the front-of-stage area, the sound was totally fine. It wasn’t the loudest Slipknot show I’ve attended, and some instruments weren’t perfectly mixed, but overall, I really enjoyed it. That said, several fans wrote to me afterward sharing a very different experience — from almost no Corey Taylor vocals in the middle rows, to a muddy mix in the back, and overwhelming bass even in parts of the front section. And when you're paying high prices for front-of-stage access — some reported up to 240 euros — it's completely fair to expect top-tier sound. I hope future shows manage this better, because fans deserve to hear Slipknot at their best.

Final Thoughts

For me personally, it was a strong night — great set, high energy, cold beer, and perfect bratwurst to end the evening. But I can’t ignore what many others experienced. A legendary band like Slipknot deserves better tech support. Here’s hoping the next tour solves that. If they do, I’ll be there again.
