Expectations

The last time I saw Cradle of Filth live was back in 2013. Since then, the lineup has completely changed, and they’ve released several new records. Their latest album pulled me right back in—it’s incredible and easily competes with my all-time favorites from the band. So I decided to go all in and get the VIP upgrade, which included a meet and greet. Everything pointed to an unforgettable night!

Arrival, VIP, Merch & Beer

The venue, Backstage, is super convenient with an S-Bahn stop right around the corner. My hotel was near Hauptbahnhof, so just three stops away. I arrived a bit earlier because the meet and greet started at 18:30, while doors opened at 19:00.

The VIP package included a laminated pass, a high-quality poster, two signed items (plus the poster if you brought two more items), a photo with the band, and early merch access. Every band member was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I got Vempire and Cruelty and the Beast signed by Dani Filth, and the poster signed by the full band.

The merch selection was excellent: signed items, guitar picks, several shirt designs, drumsticks, and more. I bought the signed vinyl edition of their latest album The Screaming of the Valkyries, the tour shirt featuring all current band members, a signed drumstick, and a guitar pick. Prices were reasonable: shirts for €40, the signed vinyl also €40, drumsticks for €10, and picks for €5.

The other bands, Nervosa and TerraDown, had great merch too, but I stuck with Cradle of Filth items.

Beer was Augustiner—a fantastic choice, smooth and enjoyable. No special tour cups, just the usual Backstage-branded ones. Prices were good: €4.50 per beer, €2 deposit for the cup.

TerraDown

I had no idea TerraDown was playing—I thought Nervosa was the only opener. What an awesome surprise! One extra band is always welcome, especially when they play at the level TerraDown did. A strong performance with powerful vocals and catchy riffs. The crowd really enjoyed it. If they play near me again, I’d gladly go see them.

Nervosa

Next up was Nervosa, an all-female thrash metal band from Brazil, very well-known in the scene. My first time seeing them, and wow—they were fantastic! Aggressive riffs, gritty vocals, and pure energy on stage. They absolutely killed it. They’ll be touring again this year with Testament, Obituary, and Destruction—a perfect lineup. If you don’t know them yet, check them out on YouTube. They have the energy of a future headliner.

Cradle of Filth

For those of us who grew up with metal, horror, gothic aesthetics, and a touch of the erotic, Cradle of Filth is a band full of memories. Dani Filth remains the only founding member, yet the band has never lost its identity. This was my third time seeing them, and I have the feeling Dani is a perfectionist—every lineup I’ve seen has had amazing musicians, and the new songs prove he’s far from running out of inspiration. The current lineup brings incredible energy.

Special mention to Zoë, the new female vocalist. Her voice is stunning—melodic, powerful, and full of character. She adds her own presence to the stage instead of being just a supporting role, and fans seem to agree. I got several messages after the show from people saying the same thing.

The setlist had 12 songs, spanning the band’s entire career. From early classics like The Principle of Evil Made Flesh and The Forest Whispers My Name, through staples from Midian, Cruelty and the Beast, and Nymphetamine, plus some newer tracks including three from the latest album The Screaming of the Valkyries.

My personal highlights: White Hellebore (new), Cruelty Brought Three Orchids, and Nymphetamine, largely thanks to Zoë’s stunning performance.

The whole band owned the stage: Ashok, Burbage, Firth, and Marthus played with incredible skill and delivered the dark, theatrical vibe Cradle of Filth is known for—complete with killer outfits and commanding presence.

Final Thoughts

An outstanding night. My inner teenager was thrilled, and the venue was packed—possibly sold out. Fans of all ages were there, and combined with the two excellent openers, it was a night I’d love to relive. If this tour comes near you, don’t miss it.
