Expectations – A journey into metalcore

I’m still not fully immersed in metalcore, but over the last years, I’ve seen how big and vibrant this scene has become. The energy, the crowds, the passion – all hard to ignore.

A friend tipped me off about Boundaries, telling me: “Check them out, they’re blowing up. Their latest release is the metalcore album of the year.” So, I gave it a listen – and liked what I heard.

For someone like me, where this genre sometimes feels like “all songs sound the same,” Boundaries showed me that if you really listen, there’s way more happening: melodies, riff changes, raw vocals, and lyrics that hit hard emotionally. Especially for a younger generation, pushing this scene forward with their own voices and feelings.

So, what better way to dive deeper than seeing it all live?

Arrival, Beer & Merch – Smooth as always

The show was sold out, but getting inside was quick and easy – just what you expect from Backstage Munich. And yes, Augustiner was flowing, as always here. Good beer, good vibes, no complaints.

Merch? Solid. Cool designs across the board. I really liked the Boundaries shirts with the “unreadable” logo – perfect for this genre. All bands had merch worth checking out, and prices were fair and standard for a show like this.

No Face No Case – Missed but appreciated

We missed No Face No Case due to some work running late, but I’ve got to say: four bands on a lineup for around 35 euros? That’s incredible. Always a win to get that much value, and I’m looking forward to catching them next time.

Dagger Threat – Raw energy unleashed

This was where the mosh pits started getting serious.

Dagger Threat brought brutal power, aggressive presence, and tight songs. At this point, I was still feeling that “everything sounds similar” vibe – but once I got into the groove, jumping and moving with the crowd, it all clicked.

Like with many forms of art, it’s about expression. They delivered that perfectly, and the crowd responded on every track. Ending with a Slipknot cover? Nice touch.

Varials – The next level

Here’s where it stepped up.

Varials had that next level feel – tighter, heavier, more dynamic. The pit went wild, and I couldn’t decide where to focus: the band or the chaos in the crowd.

I’m way past the point of jumping in pits myself, but I love watching that energy bounce between band and audience.

Definitely a band to keep an eye on – I’m sure we’ll be seeing them again soon.

Boundaries – One of us, just louder

If I had to sum up Boundaries’ set in one word? Amazing.

The best thing? They felt like they could be standing next to you at the bar before the show – one of us, ready to jump on stage and scream out everything we all feel.

The vocals blew me away.

Exactly like on the album – but with that extra live punch. The whole band was moving, interacting, never standing still. Crowd surfing in a place as small as the Backstage Club, fans jumping off the stage, massive pits. The connection between band and crowd was electric.

If you haven’t seen Boundaries live yet – you’re missing out.

Final Thoughts – The gateway into metalcore

If you’re like me and still new to metalcore, these bands – especially Boundaries – are a great way to get in. But most importantly, it’s live where this music really shines.

It’s about the energy exchange, the expression, the raw emotion, and how it all hits harder in a room full of people screaming the same words.

And if you’re already a fan? Don’t wait too long next time – these bands are only going to get bigger. Tickets won’t last.

Boundaries closed the night with raw energy – don’t miss them next time they hit your town.
